Several years ago I wrote a very short book about my Grandmother, my Gram. It was never published, it was only for my family. Yet wanted to share some of it here for others to see and think about their grandmothers too. Here is a poem inspired by her.
"Enfolded in arms so securely
Held to a chest so vast
Hearts beating softly
Their breathing
Coming together in rhythm
Murmurs of comfort and bits of song
I watch as she holds my child this way, and a part of me remembers when I was the one she held with such care and love"
Did you have a Grandmother or other family member who was born in a different era? If so, talk with the younger members of your family about that woman. Think of the many ways her life was different than ours. My Grandmother was born in 1889. Think of all the things she witnessed in her long lifetime. She gave her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren so much love and attention. Although she is gone, I will always remember her and always love her.
